Identity Pt 2

I can say the same thing about certain attributes within Ghanaian or other African nations’ cultures. Everything that is deemed culture isn’t necessarily pure African at its roots. Some things have come as a result of colonialism, foreign influence, and education. Just because it’s labeled African doesn’t automatically make it correct. It doesn’t make it valid or authentic either. Therefore, I can’t express enough the importance of learning and knowing yourself. We cannot be chameleons meaning you become wherever you are now as many seem to do.

When we Africans understand that we from the African Diaspora and those born in the continent are the missing pieces to each other we will begin to value who we are individually and collectively.

We should not allow ourselves to be divided by those individual border lines Europeans created and the oceans that divided us because of what Europeans did. We are one. Until we think from an African first perspective we will continue to operate like a dysfunctional unit with no power and purpose.

Just like purpose, you don’t discover or stumble upon your identity.

It evolves. This is something we Africans of the Diaspora must learn to do. I also believe most on the continent need to do so also, which is to evolve, because of the impact of colonialism.

You’ve now accepted the truth about your identity.

You know your specific ethnic group or tribe as many refer to it but who are you beyond your identity? Who are you beyond that knowledge?

There seems to be little or no emphasis, whatsoever placed on the importance of purpose in an individual’s lives in our communities.

There seems to be little or no emphasis, whatsoever placed on the importance of purpose in an individual’s lives in our communities. I believe I clearly stated my opinion for some of the reasons why earlier why it isn’t, which has to do directly with the identity crisis we face. As a result, more emphasis is placed upon religion and getting a good education, particularly college so you can get a good paying job than it is on purpose.

When you really think about it, if you follow that line of thinking, you’ll end up as miserable as most others and for what?

There are already clear indicators within our community that don’t work for us. People who seem to have the most fulfillment in life, are those who have discovered their purpose and are living it. A strong identity is maintained by the capacity to realize your life purpose and live it. Those who stray from their purpose lose their identity and later strive to assign meaning to their life through something else.

That’s an indication of an enslaved person or people who will do damn near anything to obtain success.

They will do anything for a dollar even selling out their own people or what’s in the best interest of their people. They are dictated by external things leading them to jump from here and there to whatever comes their way as far as ideas are concerned.

How can you properly incorporate true success in your life if you aren’t functioning according to the divine plan that was created for your life?

Shouldn’t your life be as such where you have balance that includes both your spiritual life and how you live it day to day being in tuned to your surroundings and nature? How can you stay motivated and have positive self-esteem if you don’t know who you are? How can you be your authentic self if you don’t know these things? You certainly cannot be true to yourself.
